Scene Creator

Stage your garments on a dressed and posed ped with GTA props, lighting and a backdrop, save the scene in the project and take store-ready photos of it.

Scene Creator

The Photo Studio shoots one garment on a plain ped. The Scene Creator is for the shot around it: a dressed and posed ped, props from GTA itself, the hour of the day and a backdrop. A scene is saved in the project, so you can come back to the same shot after you change a texture and take it again.

Open it

  • From the main menu: choose Scenes….
  • From the 3D preview: click the clapperboard button, Stage this garment in the Scene Creator. The window opens on the garment you are looking at.
  • From an outfit: on a saved outfit (Appearance → Outfit), choose Scene Creator. The outfit becomes the scene's actor. Save the outfit first; an unsaved outfit cannot be sent.

The window opens on Scenes:

  • New scene starts with the selected garment on a dressed ped, framed and lit, or with the default body on the studio stage if nothing is selected.
  • In this project lists the scenes saved in the project. Open one, or delete it.
  • Open a file… opens a .kctscene from anywhere on your PC.
  • If the last window closed with unsaved changes, the start screen offers to pick up where it left off.

A project must be open; a scene is made of its garments.

The window

The Navigator on the left lists everything in the scene. The Inspector on the right shows the settings of what you selected. On a narrow window both fold into drawers you open with Show navigator and Show inspector.

The arrow button in the header, Back to library, returns to the start screen.

The actor

Select the actor to get four tabs.

Outfit

Tick the garments the ped wears. Search the list to find one quickly. The starred garment is the one the scene is built around; click the star on another garment to change it. A garment cut for the other body is marked and is not drawn on this ped.

Pose

Pose the actor for the still. Move / IK: drag a hand or foot to pose the whole limb. Rotate: select a controller and turn it for precise posing. Reset pose puts the actor back in the default stance. The pose is saved with the scene.

Body

  • Ped: Freemode, or any ped in the project's Ped Library. A library ped wears the outfit over its own body, and the ped decides the gender.
  • Gender (freemode only).
  • Skin tone, or Textures' own to use the skin in the textures.
  • Dressed or Naked for the body under the outfit.
  • Advanced → Component ids: the body's own components, by number (-1 = none). Reset components undoes your changes.

Placement

Move the actor Left · right and Back · forward, turn it with Heading, or put it back with Back to the origin.

Props

Click Add object in the Navigator to search GTA's own objects. Type a word (bench, plant, neon…) or pick a category, such as Seating, Street, Signs & neon, Plants or Interior. Recent keeps what you added before, and the star adds an object to Favourites, which are kept between scenes. The game files must be set up in Settings for the search to work. A scene holds up to 40 objects.

With an object selected, the Inspector has its Name, Position, Rotation (Turn, plus Pitch and roll), Size, Visible and Casts a shadow, with Frame, Duplicate and Delete.

Moving things with the gizmo

The shot controls over the viewport place the actor and objects directly:

ControlWhat it does
Move, Rotate, ScalePick the gizmo for the selected actor or object. The actor can be moved and turned but not scaled.
SnapSnap to floor: moves step by a quarter of a metre and turns by 15°. Hold Shift while dragging to place freely.
FrameFrames the selected person or prop

Click an actor or object in the viewport to select it. Each drag is one undo step.

Camera, light and stage

  • Camera: orbit, pan or zoom the viewport to set up the shot. The shot controls jump to Front, Three-quarter, Side or Back, and Reset camera goes back to the start.
  • Look: Time of day with six Jump to presets (Night, Dawn, Morning, Noon, Golden hour, Dusk), Shadows (the ped casts onto itself and the floor) and Grey ped (mannequin), a neutral grey body that keeps the garments' textures.
  • Stage: Floor (Studio, Grid or None) and a Backdrop from the swatches.

Take the photo

Click Take photo or press P. The photo controls you know from the Photo Studio open on the scene exactly as the viewport shows it, and save one picture as PNG, WEBP or JPG.

Saving

Name the scene in the header and save with Save or Ctrl+S. Scenes are saved as .kctscene files in the project's scenes folder, so they travel with the project. Closing with unsaved changes asks first; if the window is closed anyway, the changes are kept so the next window can offer them back.
