Appearance Menu

The Appearance button on the 3D preview bar: choose the ped and its body, wear saved outfits, and preview fabric, skin tone and hair colour.

Appearance Menu

New in 2.0.8. Appearance is one button on the 3D preview bar for everything about the person on the stage: who it is, what it wears, and how the fabric and hair read. It replaced the separate Outfit and Look buttons, and it took the ped and body settings out of Viewport options, which now hold only lighting and scene.

Use it when you want to check a garment on a different body, on a different skin tone, wet or muddy, or as part of a full outfit.

Opening it

The button with the shirt icon on the bar at the bottom of the 3D preview opens the menu. Its tooltip reads Appearance — ped, outfit and look. The menu has three tabs:

TabWhat it is forPlan
PedWhich ped stands on the stage, its body, standing pose, skin tone and saved bodies.Free. Library peds are Premium.
OutfitThe outfit the ped is wearing and the project's saved outfits.Premium.
LookFabric (wet, muddy, worn, shiny, dyed) and hair colour.Free.

The menu remembers the last tab you used. Esc or a click outside closes it.

The Ped tab

Ped

Ped picks the body under the garment:

  • Freemode male or Freemode female: the built-in freemode body for the item's gender. This is the default and it is free.
  • Any ped in the project's Ped Library. Choosing one is Premium.

When a library ped is chosen, a badge underneath says whether your garments fit its skeleton. If the ped cannot wear freemode garments (an animal, for example), the stage shows its bare body and names the missing bones. If the ped cannot be read on this PC, freemode is shown instead and the reason is given.

If the library is empty, the tab says so and offers a Ped library button.

Body

ControlWhat it does
Dressed / NakedPuts the ped in a full set of clothes or in the near-nude body the preview opens on.
Standing poseA-pose or T-pose: how the ped stands while no animation plays. A move overrides it.
Component idsSets each body slot by hand, so you can check how your item sits inside an outfit. -1 means none.
Reset componentsGoes back to the body the preview opened on.

Skin tone

Twelve swatches, Your own tone for any colour, and As textured to go back to the ped's own skin. Only skin is recoloured: the base ped's underwear and anything else on it keep their colours.

Saved bodies (body presets)

A body preset is a named body: the components above, the skin tone, and the ped it was saved on.

  1. Set up the body

Pick the ped, set the components and the skin tone you want.
  2. Name it

Type a name in Name this body….
  3. Save

Click Save. The preset appears under Saved bodies.

Click a saved body to show it. The bin icon deletes it. Presets are filtered by the gender of the selected item.

Body presets are saved in the project, so everyone on the team previews on the same bodies. They are free.

You can also save a library ped as a preset from its card in the Ped Library (Save as a body preset). It then appears here under Saved bodies.

Giving an item its own preview body

Each item has a Preview body field in its properties. Set it to Default, a library ped, a saved body, or This item's own profile. The preview then dresses the ped that way whenever that item is selected. Use the body on screen stores the body you have set up as the item's own profile.

The Outfit tab

An outfit is a ped dressed slot by slot with garments, texture variants and props from the project, saved under a name.

The tab shows:

  • Current outfit: what the ped is wearing, how many pieces, and whether it is saved. Take the outfit off returns to the selected item.
  • Edit slots (or Dress the ped… if nothing is worn): opens the docked Outfit panel, where you dress the ped slot by slot.
  • Save and Save as…: store the outfit in the project.
  • Saved outfits: click one to wear it in the viewport. Each row can be renamed or deleted.
  • Photo studio: photographs the ped wearing the outfit. Wear an outfit first.
  • Scene Creator: stages a ped wearing the outfit as a new actor. Save the outfit first: the Scene Creator dresses the actor from the saved version.

Outfits are saved in the project and shared with your team. Deleting an outfit forgets only the combination; its garments stay. Deleting an item from the project removes it from every outfit.

While an outfit is worn, the stage shows the outfit's own ped, body and skin tone. The Ped tab says so, with a Take off button.

See Ped Library for dressing slot by slot.

The Look tab

Fabric

Quick presets: Dry, Rain-soaked, Damp, Muddy, Worn, Leather, Satin and Latex. Each one sets the sliders below, which you can then fine-tune:

SliderWhat it does
WetnessHow wet the fabric looks.
DirtHow dirty it looks.
SheenA soft shine across the fabric.
GlossHow glossy the surface is.
DyeTints the garment with the colour you pick. The slider sets how strong the tint is.

Reset puts the fabric back to dry and undyed.

Hair colour

Works only when the selected item is hair. Pick a Colour and a Highlight from a palette modelled on GTA Online's hair colours, then set Highlight amount. The switch beside the heading turns the preview on and off.

The palette is an approximation of the game's colours, not the exact table.
