# Inspect Window

The Inspect window shows one model or texture file on its own: no project, no item list, no editor. Use it to check a `.ydd` or `.ytd` you have downloaded or exported before you add it to a project: what it holds, how its textures look at full size, and whether it can be read at all.

It is free. The window was redesigned in 2.0.8, with a texture browser and zoom.

## Opening it

The tool adds three entries to the Windows Explorer right-click menu of `.ydd` and `.ytd` files:

| Entry | Files | What it does |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Quick Preview** | `.ydd`, `.ytd` | Opens the file in the Inspect window. |
| **Quick Optimize Textures** | `.ytd` | Opens the Inspect window on its **Optimize** tab. |
| **Quick Add to Project** | `.ydd`, `.ytd` | Adds the file to a project. It does not open the Inspect window. |

:::steps
### Find the file
Open the folder in Windows Explorer.

### Right-click it
On Windows 11 the entries are under **Show more options** (or press **Shift+F10**).

### Choose Quick Preview
The Inspect window opens on that file.
:::

The entries are on by default. To remove or restore them, go to **Settings → General → Explorer context menu**. Nothing else about `.ydd` and `.ytd` files changes: they keep opening in whatever program you already use.

The **Look** button in version history also opens an older version of a garment in this window. See [Team Collaboration](/cloth-tool/about-the-tool/team-collaboration).

## The header

The top of the window names the file and shows chips for its extension, its kind (**Model**, **Texture dictionary**, **Escrowed** or **Unreadable**) and its size. **Open folder** shows the file in Explorer.

A readable file has two tabs, **Preview** and **Data**. A `.ytd` has a third, **Optimize**.

## A model (.ydd)

### Preview

The model is drawn on its own, without a ped under it. The bar above it has:

| Control | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| **Textures** | Shows or hides textures. Greyed out when there is no texture to show. |
| **Wireframe** | Draws the mesh edges. |
| **Floor** | Shows a floor under the model. |
| **Turn slowly** | Spins the model. |
| **Front**, **Side**, **Back**, **¾** | Camera angles. |
| **Reset view** | Puts the camera back. |
| Three swatches | Dark, grey or light backdrop. |

Drag to turn, right-drag to move, use the wheel to zoom, and double-click to reset.

The panel on the right lists:

- **File**: how many **Drawables** it holds and the **Texture dictionary** it uses.
- **Model**: **Triangles** and **Vertices** for the highest LOD, the **LODs**, the **Skeleton** (bone count), **Cloth** and **Shaders**.
- **Textures**: the textures of the `.ytd` found beside the model. Click one to zoom.

If no matching `.ytd` is found next to the file, a banner says so and the model is drawn without textures. Keep the `.ytd` in the same folder with the matching name. See [Naming](/cloth-tool/information-and-errors/naming).

### Data

The same facts in more detail: geometry per LOD, a note when there is only one LOD (the game then draws the model at every distance), the skeleton (or a note that the file has no skeleton and is a rigid prop), whether a `.yld` sits beside it, the shaders, and the textures split into **Embedded in this .ydd** and **In the beside .ytd**.

## A texture dictionary (.ytd)

### The texture browser

The **Preview** tab shows every texture as a tile with its size and format, plus the total count and the megapixels in all. **Find a texture…** filters the tiles by name.

### Zoom

Click any texture, in a `.ytd` or in a model's texture list, to open it large. The header shows its size and format.

| Key or control | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| **R**, **G**, **B**, **A** | Show only that channel, in grey. Press the same key again to go back to **RGB**. |
| **1** | Switch between actual size (**1:1**) and **Fit**. |
| Sun button | Turns the checkerboard behind transparent areas on or off. |
| **Esc** | Closes the zoom. |

### Optimize

The **Optimize** tab lets you pick one texture, compare **Now** and **After**, and run **Optimize** on it. Sizes shown are estimates. Texture optimisation is Premium; see [Texture Optimization](/cloth-tool/about-the-tool/texture-optimization).

## Files that cannot be shown

### Escrowed files

A file locked by FiveM asset escrow shows **This file is escrowed**. It is encrypted to the buyer's server, so KOJA cannot preview, edit, optimise or import it. Ask the author for the unprotected source files.

### Unreadable files

A file that will not parse shows **This file could not be read**, with the reason.

### GTA V Enhanced files

New in 2.0.8. If the unreadable file is a GTA V Enhanced (gen9) file, the window says so. The preview reads Legacy (gen8) files only.

:::hint{type="warning" title="Enhanced files in a Legacy project"}
A Legacy build leaves an Enhanced file out, because it would crash a Legacy game, and the checks flag it. To ship the garment for Legacy, import a Legacy copy of it. Converting Enhanced back to Legacy is not supported yet. If you only need Enhanced, set the project to build for Enhanced only. See [GTA V Enhanced](/cloth-tool/about-the-tool/gta-v-enhanced).
