# GTA V Enhanced

FiveM runs on two editions of GTA V: **Legacy**, the classic game, and **Enhanced**, the newer one. Their model and texture files are not interchangeable. The Cloth Tool can build your pack for either edition, or for both at once.

**New in 2.0.8.** Enhanced builds are free. They count towards the free plan's builds like any other build.

## What each option builds

| Option | What you get |
| --- | --- |
| **Legacy** | The classic FiveM resource, `<name>`. This is what every build made before 2.0.8 produced. |
| **Enhanced** | One resource, `<name>_enhanced`, with every model and texture converted for FiveM on GTA V Enhanced. |
| **Legacy + Enhanced** | Two separate resources side by side: `<name>` and `<name>_enhanced`. |

`<name>` is the resource name the build writes (your project name, cleaned up for use as a folder name).

:::hint{type="warning" title="Start one, never both"}
A server runs either Legacy or Enhanced. With **Legacy + Enhanced**, copy both folders if you like, but `ensure` only the one that matches your server — they carry the same clothing collection. When the build finishes, **Start it on your server** shows the line for each edition. The two resources together take about twice the disk space of one.
:::

## No Alchemist needed

The tool converts the models and textures itself, so you do not need Cfx.re's Alchemist or any other converter. The old Alchemist setting is gone. You import your usual Legacy `.ydd` and `.ytd` files and the build makes the Enhanced copy.

:::hint{type="warning" title="Not yet tested on a live server"}
The Enhanced files are checked field by field against Rockstar's own Enhanced files, but they have not been tested on a live FiveM Enhanced server yet. The build window says so every time Enhanced is part of a build. Try the pack on an Enhanced server before you ship it.
:::

## Choosing the edition

The edition is saved in the project and can be changed for each build.

:::steps
### When you create a project

The **New project** window has a **Target game** setting. New projects start on **Legacy**.

### In project settings

Open **Project settings** → **Output** → **Target game** to change the project's saved edition.

### In the build window

Open **Build project**. With **FiveM** or **Both** selected under **Output**, the **GTA V EDITION** section shows **Legacy**, **Enhanced** and **Legacy + Enhanced**. It starts on the project's edition; what you leave it on is what builds.

## What stays Legacy only

Some things cannot be built for Enhanced yet. The build makes them for Legacy and tells you so in its warnings.

- **Escrowed resources.** Their files are encrypted, so only the seller can convert them, and FiveM for GTA V Enhanced does not support asset escrow yet. They ship with the Legacy resource only. The Enhanced resource carries an `ESCROW-README.txt` that lists them. See [Escrowed Resources](/cloth-tool/about-the-tool/escrowed-resources).
- **The singleplayer dlc.rpf.** GTA V Enhanced has no official singleplayer mod support yet, so no Enhanced `dlc.rpf` is made.
- **Ped resources.** Peds from the Ped Creator and clothing built for library peds are Legacy only.
- **Standalone tattoo resources.** Tattoos built on their own from the Tattoo Creator are Legacy only. Tattoos that are part of a clothing build are converted with the rest of the pack.

## Checks that help

The [Validation](/cloth-tool/about-the-tool/validation) checks look out for two Enhanced problems:

- **A file is GTA V Enhanced, but the build is for Legacy.** An Enhanced (gen9) file would crash a Legacy game, so the Legacy resource leaves it out. Import a Legacy copy of the file, or build for Enhanced only. Converting Enhanced files back to Legacy is not supported.
- **A model too complex for GTA V Enhanced.** GTA V Enhanced crashes loading a model with 128 or more geometries or materials in one piece. Split or simplify it in the [Mesh Optimizer](/cloth-tool/about-the-tool/mesh-optimizer) before building for Enhanced.

If a file cannot be converted during an **Enhanced** build, the build stops rather than ship an invisible garment. In a **Legacy + Enhanced** build, that item is left out of the Enhanced resource only, and the warnings name it.

The [Inspect Window](/cloth-tool/about-the-tool/inspect-window) also tells you when a file is an Enhanced file. The 3D preview reads Legacy files only.
